Bogie Biankus x Joaks Lucky Chick (Maudies Joak)

ROLLER AND A SHAKER was bred not by mistake but by careful study of what we felt the Barrel and Rodeo Horse Industry needed. We wanted to develop a bloodline that was not only unique but also very proven in the barrel and rodeo world. We began looking at NFR barrel stallions from the past and trying to find ones that were very successful from years gone by. We really liked MAUDIES JOAK. He was a 5-Time NFR Qualifier and World Champion Barrel Horse with Connie Combs. He also sired 2x NFR Qualifier Suak. Maudies Joak was an own son of Joak who is by Joe Reed II and out of a own daughter of Leo. His performance record and pedigree was just what we were looking for. He is the only stallion to win the WPRA World Championship and still holds the record for never hitting a barrel at the NFR. His Dam produced 2 half brothers that were AQHA Supreme Champions. He had sired only around 100 registered AQHA foals so there was a very small amount out there to compete with and even fewer still alive. We were able to find 5 daughters that were still alive and we bought three of them!

Next we had to find a very successful stallion that was also unique to the world from a pedigree standpoint and not over bred to the point that everybody had one. We found BOGIES BIANKUS. He was the perfect cross. He was a NFR barrel horse and was a 5x Columbia River circuit Finals Champion and also sired two CNFR world champions and most recently, the 2017 NFR Qualifier Bogie Is A Smash piloted by Taci Bettis. Bogies Biankus is by Biankus who sired many great horses including NFR Barrel Horses Captain Biankus and Bogies Biankus. He had the pedigree, conformation, and record to produce a stallion. We called his owners Sid And Randy Rae Britt. I talked to Randy Rae and she was gracious enough to collect and ship semen on him for us. She mainly bred mares to him at their place in Echo, Oregon and didn’t collect and ship on him a lot. This extra effort by the Britt’s will always be appreciated by us at 88 Ranch. They are great people and had a amazing stallion.

We bred two Maudies Joak mares and had two stud colts the following spring! The amazing thing about this was both the sire and dam where in there mid to late 20’s! They were both very nice but we only needed one. We kept them both stallions for two years to decide which one we liked best. We cut the one and kept “Shaker” a stud. Sadly Bogies Biankus is passed now and our Maudies Joak mares are too old to produce.

Fortunately these genetics will live on through ROLLER AND A SHAKER. He possesses a great mind, conformation and pedigree that is so unique that he is the one and only bred this way. His first foal crop arrived in the spring of 2018!
